These delicious chocolate date balls are made with, you guessed it, dates and raw cacao. They are so delicious; you’ll find yourself reaching for more. And with no added sugar, why the heck not?! The dates make these vegan bliss balls so creamy and sweet, but it’s the raw cacao that really brings it home.

How to make Chocolate Date Balls

Date balls are so easy to make; this recipe calls for just two ingredients. For extra creamy chocolate bliss balls, I recommend using Medjool dates that are room temperature. First, pit the dates, add them to the food processor, and blend until nice and smooth, along with three tablespoons of raw cacao. Second, the fudgy mixture needs to be refrigerated for about 30 minutes. This will make rolling them into balls much easier (because they won’t be sticky). Finally, roll the chocolate date mixture into balls and roll them in the remaining raw cacao powder until evenly coated.

If the dates you are using have been sitting around for a while and are a bit dried out, then you may want to pour some hot water over them and let them sit for five minutes or so. This will re-hydrate them, making for creamier bliss balls. Once they are done soaking, drain them and pat them down with a couple of paper towels (so they aren’t too wet) and continue along with the recipe.

Recipe FAQ

Do you have to use Medjool dates?

You can use any type of date for this recipe. However, I am a fan of Medjool dates for their size and moistness.

Can you make chocolate bliss balls without a food processor.

Yes! My food processor broke on me, and I was able to make delicious bliss balls just fine without it. The big difference is the creaminess. As long as the dates you are using are nice and moist and you have a sharp knife to dice and then mince them with, you can make these chocolate date balls just fine without a food processor.
